From 9th to 11th of September, MET  had the honour of hosting the SMILE CITY Horizon Europe project general assembly WP3 in Vilnius, bringing together leading experts and organizations working on sustainable urban mobility solutions.

The meeting gathered the project coordinator ETRA alongside partners PROTECH, COMSA, Little Energy, AIMPLAS, and NTU to discuss the latest research and innovation progress in photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage technologies.

Driving Innovation in PV and Energy Storage

During the meeting, consortium members:

  • Reviewed progress on photovoltaic and energy storage technology development
  • Assessed the implementation of ongoing project tasks
  • Planned the next phase of SMILE CITY to maximize impact on sustainability and urban mobility

These discussions highlight the project’s role in shaping the future of renewable energy integration within European cities.

Showcasing MET’s R&D and Manufacturing Facilities

As part of the meeting, MET introduced partners to its state-of-the-art R&D facilities in Vilnius and manufacturing department in Alytus.

The consortium had the opportunity to take part in an extensive day tour of the Alytus manufacturing facilities, gaining a firsthand look at the infrastructure, technology, and production capabilities that support MET’s role in the Horizon Europe SMILE CITY project.

This visit highlighted how cutting-edge research, advanced manufacturing, and practical innovation come together at MET to accelerate the development of PV and energy storage solutions for sustainable urban mobility.

Such collaboration demonstrates the value of combining research excellence with industrial know-how to accelerate clean energy solutions.

Acknowledging Leadership and Collaboration

Special thanks go to Work Package 3 lead Ettore Musacchi and all contributors whose dedication continues to drive the SMILE CITY project forward. Their expertise and commitment ensure the successful implementation of this ambitious initiative.

Looking Ahead: Next Steps for SMILE CITY

With the meeting’s outcomes, the consortium is well-positioned to advance the next phase of project implementation. MET and its partners will continue to work on sustainable PV solutions, advanced energy storage, and innovative approaches to urban mobility.

Stay tuned for more updates as the SMILE CITY project moves closer to achieving its mission of creating greener, smarter, and more resilient European cities.
