The conversations highlighted not only technological advancements but also the practical implementation of solutions aimed at building more resilient and energy-efficient cities.

During the meeting, MET CEO Algirdas Baležentis shared his insights, emphasizing that the technologies developed by MET directly contribute to the project’s core objective: creating sustainable, circular solutions for urban environments.

A New Generation of Solar Modules – Sustainability from Design to Recycling

MET is developing a new generation of lightweight solar modules made from recyclable and durable polymers. These modules are lighter, stronger, and designed for recyclability from the very beginning. At the end of their service life, the materials can be returned to the recycling loop and reused.

In addition, MET is developing glass/glass PV modules-solutions particularly well suited for buildings and modern urban spaces, where durability, resilience, and architectural integration are essential.

Our development direction is clear: to use recycled materials, create robust and long-lasting modules, and ensure that, at the end of their lifecycle, they can return to the circular economy.

Less waste. Less pollution. More clean energy.

As we move into the second year of the project, we do so with strong partnerships, a clear strategic direction, and even greater determination to develop future-ready solutions across Europe.

By rethinking materials and design, we are not only improving solar panels-we are helping to build a circular future where clean energy technologies leave no negative footprint behind. ♻

The annual General Assembly of SmileCity brought project partners together this year in Rome, where participants were hosted by Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.
